Independence Village of Petoskey had the honor of hosting a resident’s 100th birthday party. Betty Whiteley and her husband of 68 years, Harry, have been residents at Independence Village of Petoskey for over three years and look forward to more. When asked about her life at Independence Village after her birthday, she expressed gratitude and enjoyment in the little things life has to offer.
Q: What are your favorite activities at Independence Village?
A: “My eyesight is very poor at 100 years old, but I do like volleyball, exercise class, wine time and any musical activity or party.”
Q: How would you encourage other seniors to stay active?
A: “Keep doing what you enjoy doing for as long as you physically can.”
Q: How does it feel to be married for the better part of your life?
A: “I didn’t think I would be married this long, just like I didn’t think I would live to be 100 years old. It has been a pleasant surprise to enjoy.”
Q: What do you love about Independence Village?
A: “I like that our home offers many different things to do. There are outings of all types. The community is pleasant and attractive. The people who work here are very nice.”
Betty and Harry Whiteley have lived at Independence Village since fall 2014 after looking into many senior living communities in Northern Michigan.
