We’re so glad you’re here. Independence Village is a place full of warmth, energy and activity. We hope you feel an instant connection to the people that live and work in our community, as we strive to ensure that you enjoy every single moment of every single day here.
You’ll be amazed at the natural beauty and wonder of the wooded grounds here at Avon Lake. Don’t be surprised if you see deer wandering about for their daily visit. In addition, we are near six community parks in town for all to enjoy.
We believe that our extra effort and attention to detail make us an extra special place to live. Because we know the little things make a difference, we work to make sure that every thing we do – large or small – will help you get more out of every day.
We offer a variety of apartment types, from studios to one- or two-bedroom suites. Each style includes utilities and is ready for immediate move-in. Stylish accents and thoughtful touches make whichever floor plan you choose a wonderful home. Add your personal touch and make the décor as individual as you are.
Get together in the Gathering Place—the place you’ll find something to do every day of the week. From cozy movie nights to motion video games on the big-screen TV and card tournaments, there’s something for everyone here. The Gathering Place is also where you’ll toast friends over happy hour every other Friday, and throw private parties for special events. We also host educational presentations in the Gathering Place for residents interested in continued learning.
Rack ’em up in The Corner Pocket, Independence Village’s own in-house billiards room, where pool sharks meet for a friendly game between friends or team up for a serious tournament.
Our big, sunny atrium is just the place to enjoy exciting cultural and entertaining events. Feel free to play our grand piano, whether you’re a beginner or longtime performer. Special guests often stop by and put on a show, too, such as Big Entertainment’s Island Jeff and Deborah Rose, and twice a year Don Disantis’s Big Orchestra does a live concert just for our residents. The Atrium is also the site of Felecia Zimmerman’s art presentations, as well as the home of our Murder Mystery Dinner Theater events. And everyone loves to stop by during our Annual Dog Show, where some of the cutest and most talented canines in town show off for our residents and their guests. And whether there’s a special event going on or not, there’s a morning coffee klatch every day in the Atrium that’s always a good way to start the day.
Book lovers will appreciate the convenience of a library right at home. The Eagles’ Nest Library is run by a resident librarian, and is the place to gather for book club meetings for those who enjoy group discussions and sharing thoughts about literature and popular novels.
The Sunrise Café is always open, whether the sun’s just coming up or has just gone down. Stop in for a continental breakfast or a drink or snack any day, any time, we’re open 24/7.
Staying fit is good for body, mind and soul. Our Fit For Life Fitness Room is a convenient place to work out, stretch and get your blood pumping on our recumbent bikes, treadmills, and free weights. The Fitness Room is open 24 hours a day for your convenience, so feel free to work out when it suits your schedule.
For residents who are skilled seamstresses or crafters—and even those who’d like to learn to sew—the Stitch In Time Sewing Center is at your service. We provide the sewing machines, you provide the inspiration! Sewing aficionados also enjoy meeting for Sewing Clubs to trade techniques, materials, or just talk while enjoying their hobby.
Residents will appreciate the conveniently located Ship to Shore Computer Room, where they are invited to write letters, take care of business matters, play games, shop on the Internet, read email, or even write their novel!
Independence Village of Avon Lake is not only your home, it’s home to a five-star restaurant, where the food is always excellent and the service always exceeds expectations. Our hostess and waitstaff take pride in knowing our residents—not just their names, but their preferences and needs. We know what you like, and what you don’t. We remember that you like your bacon crisp, and your eggs over medium. We pay attention to any dietary requests you have and respect them. Everyone is special to us, and we take care of your food just as we take care you. It’s like going to a restaurant run by your friends and family. Our Executive Chef is very serious about her kitchen and what comes out of it, and has a meeting before each meal start to ensure her staff knows the menu and all our residents’ dietary restrictions. We believe you deserve the very best, and we will do everything we can to ensure a consistently top-shelf dining experience at every meal.

Our Life Enrichment Program is built around the basic philosophy of enriching the lives of our residents by keeping them healthy and happy. To achieve this, we offer three different programs, depending on the needs of the individual.
The Assisted Living and Memory Program also incorporates all of the above programs but in a more person-centered approach. Since these residents are in various stages of dementia, our calendar does not have a scheduled timetable. We list various activities to cover the Seven Dimensions of Wellness to be executed at whatever time of day works best for each resident. Several activities take place at the same time to meet the individual needs of each resident. Although we have many group activities, this stage requires more one-on-one, or small group activities. Although a daily list of activities is offered, there is also a daily pick list we pull from to meet an individual person’s needs.

The Independence Village Avon Lake is part of a community that has a lot to offer its residents in every facet of life: spiritually, commercially, and by way of good friends and neighbors. Right next door to us is the Church of the Open Door, which holds services on Sundays and Wednesdays, and just across the street you’ll find the Holy Spirit church for those who wish to attend Catholic services. Holy Spirit is also kind enough to come to our community each Sunday for communion services. Shopping is close by as well, with a nearby grocery store, convenience store, and restaurants and businesses in the small plaza adjacent to Independence Village. Avon Lake is also home to Avon Commons and Crocker, where you’ll find several popular department stores.
Independence Village Avon Lake has very strong ties with the local Avon Lake community and giving back is very important to us. The Avon Lake High School football team has enjoyed many dinners on us, and we’ve partnered with The National Honor Society since 2011 and have granted $9,000 in scholarships to graduating NHS seniors. We also have partnered with Community Resource Service, a local nonprofit organization, to help local families in need. We “adopt” several families from our community around the holiday season as well. We’re proud to have strong relationships with the local police and fire departments, and support them whenever possible.
From the part-time waitstaff to our Executive Director, each Independence Village employee is committed to providing exceptional care to our residents at every interaction. Our core values are centered on the belief that each individual is special and unique, with something valuable to offer the world. Each resident deserves our unequivocal kindness, collaboration, dedication, and understanding, and it is our mission to provide it. We are advocates for you, and we make our primary focus meeting your needs, each and every day.
