We’re so glad you’re here. Independence Village is a place full of warmth, energy and activity. We hope you feel an instant connection to the people that live and work in our community, as we strive to ensure that you enjoy every single moment of every single day here.

White Lake is one of Michigan’s premier outdoor recreation areas. Fisherman and boaters love the hundreds of lakes tucked in and around the area, and the Highland Recreation Area is home to equestrian riders, mountain bikers, hikers and skiers. Closer to home, you’ll love being close to nature as you enjoy the pond and walking path on our grounds.

Common Areas

The Gathering Place

Get together in the Gathering Place—the place you’ll find something to do every day of the week. From cozy movie and popcorn nights to game nights and bingo, there’s something for everyone here. The Gathering Place is also where you’ll toast friends over happy hour every Thursday, and throw private parties for special events. We also offer chair yoga and exercise classes so you can stay flexible, fit, and relieve stress. Wine-loving residents have their own reason for loving the Gathering Place—our custom-designed and totally remodeled wine cabinets! Store your vintage Cabernets at the perfect temperature in your own secure locker for no charge, and enjoy at your leisure.

The Café

Our charming café is open for continental breakfast every day of the week. Later in the day, stop in for our 2pm social hour and nibble on delicious homemade cookies and chat with friends. We also host cooking demos in the café and show you all the latest tips and techniques to cooking the dishes you love to eat at Independence Village.

Book lovers will appreciate the convenience of a library right at home. We’re fully stocked with all genres of books, all of which are available in large print varieties. We also offer a magnifier that makes it easy to see smaller text and photos or art. Bring a friend or three and get a card game going in the Library if you like. It’s the perfect place to meet for a round of poker or euchre.

We know how much our residents enjoy gardening, so feel free to visit our courtyard and dig in to our garden bed. Indulge your green thumb and cultivate your very own flowers, herbs, tomatoes, or other vegetables, or just admire the plants and natural beauty cultivated by other residents.

The Pond

One very special attribute of Independence Village of White Lake is our onsite pond. Residents are invited to spend the day enjoying the peace that comes with sitting at the water’s edge. It’s also a lovely place to walk and admire the habits of the geese that frequent the pond. There’s even a neighborhood dog that stops by to take a dip in the cool water on warm days!

Dining & Recreation

Experience Exceptional Dining

Independence Village of White Lake is not only your home, it’s home to a five-star restaurant, where the food is always excellent and the service always exceeds expectations. Our hostess and waitstaff take pride in knowing our residents—not just their names, but their preferences and needs. We know what you like, and what you don’t. We remember that you like your bacon crisp, and your eggs over medium. We pay attention to any dietary requests you have and respect them. Want a sugar-free dessert? We prepare one every day of the week! Everyone is special to us, and we take care of your food just as we take care of you. We want you to be happy with your dining options, so we’ll make whatever you like—even if it’s not on the menu. Our Executive Chef is very serious about his kitchen and what comes out of it, and is proud to partner with Banana Brothers of Fenton for our produce. We believe you deserve the very best, and we will do everything we can to ensure a consistently top-shelf dining experience at every meal.

Life is Good

Our Life Enrichment Program is meant to be a personal journey of growth and enrichment, affecting not only our residents but also their families and our surrounding community. Our approach is always to include spirit, mind, soul, and body in our event consideration for each resident. We believe that everyone has lived and continues to live a beautiful and interesting life, and we want all of our residents to remain well-rounded, healthy and personally fulfilled.

A big part of our program involves listening. We like to hear about your life experiences and further your interests. Every person is important and valuable to our community, and we work hard to make sure each resident feels loved and appreciated. Our events include field trips to Tigers games, plays at the Gem Theater, Philharmonic concerts and excursions to the DIA, visiting a trout fishing farm, touring Franklin Gardens and going to Kensington Metro Park. There’s always something going on right here at home, too. Playing classic games like bingo or pinochle are a part of everyday life. The Veteran’s Wall of Honor is another way we honor and delight residents. We also provide a 22-passenger shuttle bus that is available for doctor appointments, shopping, or other places you’d like to visit.

There is literally something for everyone in our Life Enrichment Program, and we encourage every resident to get involved and enjoy everything life has to offer at Independence Village.

In the Neighborhood

We partner with the Outreach Center to raise money for low-income families and sponsor several events at local churches and our senior center and library. Our own Knitting Club even makes blankets and donates them to local hospitals.
