Community Overview

plymouth

Welcome!

We’re so glad you’re here. Independence Village is a place full of warmth, energy and activity. We hope you feel an instant connection to the people that live and work in our community, as we strive to ensure that you enjoy every single moment of every single day here.

With its quaint downtown and friendly neighbors, Plymouth loves to come together as a community. The Ice Festival, the Art Fair and weekly Concerts in the Park make our downtown a destination for people throughout Metro Detroit.  Nestled alongside Hines Park and the Rouge River, our community is a beautiful, serene place among this charming town. In fact, our building was formerly the luxurious Thunderbird Inn. People love living at a place that holds fond memories of past parties and New Year’s Eve celebrations.

We believe that our extra effort and attention to detail make us an extra special place to live. Because we know the little things make a difference, we work to make sure that every thing we do – large or small – will help you get more out of every day.

Dining & Recreation

Experience Exceptional Dining

Independence Village of Plymouth is not only your home, it’s home to a five-star restaurant, the Thunderbird Dining Room, where the food is always excellent and the service always exceeds expectations. Our hostess and waitstaff take pride in knowing our residents—not just their names, but their preferences and needs. We know what you like, and what you don’t. We remember that you like your bacon crisp, and your eggs over medium. We pay attention to any dietary requests you have and respect them. It’s like being a regular in your favorite local restaurant. Everyone is special to us, and we take care of your food just as we take care of you. We want you to be happy with your dining options, so we’ll make whatever you like—even if it’s not on the menu. Our Executive Chef is very serious about his kitchen and what comes out of it. From lobster bisque to cheeseburgers—everything we make is prepared with love. We use the freshest ingredients possible to create a balance between classic comfort food and dishes that are a little more daring. We believe you deserve the very best, and we will do everything we can to ensure a consistently top-shelf dining experience at every meal.

Life is Good

Our Life Enrichment Program is meant to be a personal journey of growth and enrichment, affecting not only our residents but their families and our surrounding community. Our approach is always to include spirit, mind, soul, and body in our event consideration for each resident. We believe that everyone has lived and continues to live a beautiful and interesting life, and we want all of our residents to remain well-rounded, healthy and personally fulfilled.

A big part of our program involves listening. We like to hear about your life experiences and further your interests. Every person is important and valuable to our community, and we work hard to make sure each resident feels loved and appreciated. We are especially proud of our music therapy program. Participants enjoy singing in our resident choir, the Village Joy Singers, which is not only fun, but builds confidence and lung capacity. We’ve found it to be a great mental exercise to remember familiar songs, lift up your voice and sing! We also read books together, lead discussion groups, eat out, play cards, enjoy great entertainment, go fishing, take field trips and celebrate holidays together. There is literally something for everyone in our Life Enrichment Program, and we encourage every resident to get involved and enjoy everything life has to offer at Independence Village.

In the Neighborhood

Plymouth is named in the Top 100 Places to Live in America for good reason. From its vibrant downtown district, filled with shops, eateries, coffee shops, bakeries and candy stores to its year-round outdoor festivals and events, there is always something going on and something to do. Kellogg Park is a popular destination for dog walking, picnicking, or just sitting on a bench and enjoying the fresh air. You’ll find plenty of fine dining in downtown Plymouth as well, with patios for dining outdoors and people-watching in the warmer months. Summer also brings concerts in the park, parades, farmers markets, the Concours d’Elegance, and lots of other exciting events.

Independence Village of Plymouth has a stellar reputation in the surrounding communities. We are known for our great food, and participate in local farmers’ markets and business showcase events, often taking home culinary awards. Our spectacular Sunday brunches are legendary and well attended by residents’ family members and friends, making every Sunday like a wonderful party.

We are active in three local chambers and support a variety of community events, such as the Plymouth Ice Festival, A Taste of Plymouth, and The Plymouth Art Fair. We love Plymouth and everything it has to offer our residents, and we know you’ll love living here, too.
