We’re so glad you’re here. Independence Village is a place full of warmth, energy and activity. We hope you feel an instant connection to the people that live and work in our community, as we strive to make sure you enjoy every single moment of every single day here.
Our community features a commanding view of Little Traverse Bay, the central feature of our waterfront town. The Victorian architecture and historic Gaslight Shopping District echo a more delightful era, and help make this Northern Lower Peninsula destination a charming place to call home.
We believe that our extra effort and attention to detail make us an extra special place to live. Because we know the little things make a difference, we work to make sure that every thing we do – large or small – will help you get more out of every day.
We offer a variety of apartment types, from studios to one- or two-bedroom suites. Each style includes utilities and is ready for immediate move-in. Stylish accents and thoughtful touches make whichever floor plan you choose a wonderful home. Add your personal touch and make the décor as individual as you are.
Get together in the Petoskey Room—the place you’ll find something to do every day of the week. A hub of activity, residents love to stop in for happy hour, trivia contests, Wii bowling tournaments, and even exercise classes! Equipped with a full kitchen, you can grab a bite without having to interrupt your game. We even have a wall dedicated to our nation’s Veterans, decorated with their unique stories detailing their time serving out country.
Our Garden View Room is designed for intimate events and get-togethers. Overlooking the raised garden beds tended to by residents, this common area is a favorite spot for friends and family to gather for movies, book club meetings, small parties, and occasional nurses’ lectures.
Billiards, poker tournaments, Wii sports and more await you in the Billiards Room. Pull up a chair or grab a cue stick and let the games begin, whatever your favorite indoor sport. Everyday happy hours are something to look forward to, and every night is game night in the Billiards Room.
Enjoy the tranquility of a nearby spiritual retreat so close to home. Beautiful surroundings calm your mind and soothes your spirit as you take the Holy Communion or arrive for Sunday services, and interested residents can further their understanding of the scriptures during Bible study meetings held in the Chapel. All denominations are welcome in the Chapel.
The Activity Room is a workout area for your mind and body. Stretch your muscles on our exercise equipment and flex your mental capabilities putting together puzzles or taking technology classes. Our Life Enrichment team is on staff to provide guidance or just to talk. We want residents to participate in making our Activity Room a stimulating environment, so you’re always invited to stop in to brainstorm new ideas for future activities or give us feedback on current programs.
Independence Village of Petoskey is not only your home, it’s home to a five-star restaurant, where the food is always excellent and the service always exceeds expectations. Our hostess and waitstaff take pride in knowing our residents—not just their names, but their preferences and needs. We know what you like, and what you don’t. We remember that you like your bacon crisp, and your eggs over medium. We pay attention to any dietary requests you have and respect them. Everyone is special to us, and we take care of your food just as we take care of you. We want you to be happy with your dining options, so we offer a variety of multiple daily specials as well as our extensive always-available selections. And if you have a personal recipe you want to share, please do! Our Executive Chef welcomes family recipes and loves to prepare and serve them. He also is known for dropping by a residents’ table for a quick visit as he pours your coffee before dessert. We believe you deserve the very best, and we will do everything we can to ensure a consistently top-shelf, friendly dining experience at every meal.

Our Life Enrichment Program is meant to be a personal journey of growth and enrichment, affecting not only our residents but also their families and our surrounding community. Our approach is always to meet the five dimensions of wellness: spiritual, social, intellectual, physical and emotional. We believe that everyone has lived and continues to live a beautiful and interesting life, and we want all of our residents to remain balanced, well-rounded, healthy, and personally fulfilled.
A big part of our program involves listening. We like to hear about your life experiences and further your interests. It’s important to us to stay open to new ideas, so we welcome your participation and input. Our events schedule goes above and beyond—from Tai Chi and exercise to intellectually stimulating seminars, boat trips and happy hours. We strive to engage our residents every day. There are no limits to the possibilities our Life Enrichment Program offers, and each resident has the opportunity to participate and flourish every day. We believe that when our residents and associates work together, we can create a culture of celebrating life.
