Welcome

We’re so glad you’re here. Independence Village is a place full of warmth, energy and activity. We hope you feel an instant connection to the people that live and work in our community, as we strive to ensure that you enjoy every single moment of every single day here.

While quaint, Aurora has a lively and artsy downtown. You’ll find over a thousand acres of parklands, with numerous serene walking paths to enjoy. You can even follow a path to an outlet mall whenever you’re in the need for a little “shopping therapy.”

We believe that our extra effort and attention to detail make us an extra special place to live. Because we know the little things make a difference, we work to make sure that every thing we do – large or small – will help you get more out of every day.

Common Areas

Courtyard

Our courtyard is a community commons area, where lots of fun things happen and the whole family is always invited. Summertime means concerts, so sit on your porch and share a bottle of wine with friends and watch the band play. We also host a festive summer barbecue, an annual clam bake, a pig roast and Hawaiian luau as well as weekly bonfires, which are a great way to spend family nights with your loved ones.

Walking Path

Residents love our scenic and peaceful walking path. It’s an ideal place to do morning exercises and enjoy the fresh air or meet like-minded nature lovers for a group walk.

Raised Gardens

We know how much our residents enjoy gardening, so feel free to dig in and get your hands dirty in our raised gardens. Go ahead and indulge your green thumb and cultivate your very own flowers, herbs, tomatoes, or other vegetables.

Library

Book lovers will appreciate the convenience of a library right at home. We also host book club meetings twice a week for residents who enjoy group discussions and sharing thoughts about literature and popular novels.

Imagination Station

Grandchildren will look forward to visiting when they discover our Imagination Station. We provide interactive play areas, learning games, and other fun and engaging activities that kids love and grandparents love to share. We also play Disney movies all day in the Imagination Station for kids (and adults!) who want to take a break from the action and enjoy classic, family-friendly entertainment.

Computer Lab

Using computers in our resident-run lab is easy and convenient with our MyGait Computers, designed specifically for use by seniors. Simple to use, MyGait takes all the confusion and frustration out of technology and provides a simple path to the Internet so residents can stay connected. Use them to access your own email account, which Life Enrichment can help you set up, or to shop, learn, or create documents, write letters, or take care of any other person business you have. Each computer is equipped with an arthritis-friendly mouse that is easy to use.

Nature Nook

The Nature Nook is your very own private nursery, filled with plants that are completely cultivated and cared for by residents. Tropical flowers, citrus trees, and other exotic and beautiful plants that aren’t found in our climate flourish in the Nature Nook under residents’ loving attention.

The Gathering Room

Get together in the Gathering Room—the place you’ll find something to do every day of the week. Shoot a game of pool with friends, or play bingo at one of our thrice-a-week games. This is also the place you’ll have a fun-filled happy hour twice a week, or throw private parties for special events. We also host educational events in the Gathering Room and offer collegiate-level courses via DVD here for residents interested in continued learning.

Fitness Center

Staying fit is good for body, mind and soul. Our Fitness Center is a convenient place to work out, stretch and get your blood pumping on our spinning bikes, treadmills, workout balls and weights, and other exercise classes which are offered six days a week.

Dining & Recreation

Experience Exceptional Dining

Independence Village is not only your home, it’s home to a five-star restaurant, where the food is always excellent and the service always exceeds expectations. Our hostess and waitstaff take pride in knowing our residents—not just their names, but their preferences and needs. We know what you like, and what you don’t. We remember that you like your bacon crisp, and your eggs over medium. We pay attention to any dietary requests you have and respect them. Want a sugar-free dessert? We prepare one every day of the week! Everyone is special to us, and we take care of your food just as we take care of you.

Life is Good

Living at Independence Village is a bit like the best parts of living in a college dormitory. Friendship, close bonds, and a seemingly never-ending opportunity to do something fun are the best ways to describe it. We strongly believe that new adventures and different experiences are essential to enjoying life, and we encourage residents to do what makes them happy, whatever that is. Our activity calendar is always full—from our annual kayaking trip to music and learning and art. And we don’t stop just because it’s dinnertime; we have events that run well into the evening and all day on the weekends, too. Home is a very special place when you’ve always got interesting things to do and friends to do them with.

In the Neighborhood

At Independence Village Aurora we are an integral part of the community. We give back to the community every month alongside the Chambers, Churches and Senior Centers by participating in:
  • Annual trick or treat events
  • Easter egg hunt
  • Craft fair
  • Blast From the Past – An event featuring vintage attractions from an Ohio theme park from the past
  • Senior Center Expo – We host all the nearby senior centers who use our space for an expo
  • Churches (Our Lady of Perpetual Health) and local senior center functions
  • National Honor Society and SAAD (Students Agents Destructive Decision), who works with us for volunteer hours for collage and to give back to the community.
  • Monthly intergenerational programming with Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy, where residents and young student participate together in crafting, reading and learning groups, and special holiday events.
  • Local Chambers’ business expos
  • VFW flag-raising ceremonies

We support Aurora’s local fire and police departments as well, donating full meals to them every Thanksgiving and Christmas, and host an annual police/fire department chair volleyball tournament.
